What To Expect After Installing a Polyaspartic Floor Coating

Many homeowners are choosing to use polyaspartic coatings on their garage floors, outdoor porches and basements due to the product’s extreme durability, ultraviolet light stability and chemical resistance. Here are a few things you can do to protect your polyaspartic floor coating and prolong its life.

What To Expect After Installing a Polyaspartic Floor Coating

After-Installation Maintenance

For the first 12-24 hours while the floor is drying, there will be a strong odor. The warmer the temperatures, the sooner the fumes will stop. On the other hand, the cooler the temperatures, the longer it will take for the floor to completely dry and the longer the off-gassing will last. To evacuate the fumes, open the garage door for at least 30 minutes.

Cleaning Procedures

To clean and maintain a polyaspartic floor, use a diluted cleaning solution. When rinsing the floor, use clean water and a squeegee or wet vacuum. Make sure the product you use for getting rid of surface debris is in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. For hard water stains, road wear and road oils, you can use Windex with ammonia or vinegar. Avoid using acids, alkali or other harsh detergents as these products can damage the garage flooring coating.

For cleaning areas that are heavily soiled, a small amount of acetone solvent might be helpful. Allow two to three hours after cleaning to let the solvent dissipate. If using a pressure washer, make sure the water pressure does not exceed 1,000 PSI at the nozzle. Direct pressure washing and utilizing rotating nozzle heads can damage the floor, so it is best to avoid these techniques.
