Polyaspartic Coating How Long Does It Take To Dry?

Polyaspartic coatings have become increasingly popular due to their reliability and quick installation. If you have an epoxy garage floor, you probably already know that this type of floor takes five days to be completed. So if you want to avoid a longer wait without compromising the quality of your floor, you should consider polyaspartic coating.

In this post, Guardian Garage Floors shares more information about polyaspartic coatings, particularly their installation and curing time.

Installation

Polyaspartic floor coatings are typically applied with a squeegee, seal-coat broom or a simple 3/8-inch nap roller that is 18 inches long. Furthermore, experts use methods such as the “Dip and Roll” Method and the “Ribbon and Roll” Method.

If you still have old epoxy floor coatings adhered to the substrate, you can still apply a polyaspartic coating over the existing epoxy garage floor coating. Polyaspartic coatings have superior intercoat adhesion, so using it over an epoxy coating shouldn’t be a problem. The installer, however, should sand the epoxy floor first. Then, excess dust should be vacuumed and the area wiped with an appropriate solvent to ensure the surface is clean. After doing these preparations, the area is ready for a fresh coat of polyaspartic.

Curing

One of the biggest advantages of polyaspartic coating over the traditional epoxy coating technology is its rapid curing capabilities. On average, polyaspartic floors dry in a matter of hours. This short curing period is especially beneficial for commercial establishments or 24/7 institutions since the polyaspartic coating system allows for a next-day return to service.
